 08/04/23 - g9 Great Lakes Regional (Barrington/258 1, Janesville/205 1)

Friday, August 4 - ALL UNOFFICIAL!

Game 9 - Barrington/IL Post 158 2 (2-1/23-15), Janesville/WI Post 205 1 (1-2/21-11) - elimination - Jim's unofficial scoring

*v Barrington/158: 0-0-0.0-0-0.2 = 2; (2-6-0-6lob); SP/WP-Nick Lacson (Barrington/23-Colrado School of Mines; 7ip/26bf-CG (87p), 1R/1er, 7H, 4K); GWRBI (7th inning, 2-out walk to Brendan Beals (Barrington/23));

*H Janesville/205: SP/LP-Dylan Snyder (Janesville Craig/23-St Mary's/MN; 7ip/29bf (91p), 2R/0er, 6H. 1BB, 5K, 1-IntBB); 2H (Trace Jacobson (Janesville Parker/22-St Norbert)); 2B (Jacobson);

*Jim's unofficial notes:

*General note - a close, fast-paced and exciting game. Some errors / mistakes but well pitched (2 complete games, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts combined).

*Errors matter: A top of the 7th inning, 2-out error with bases loaded allowed Barrington/158 to tie the game at 1-1;

*Walks matter: Janesville/205 only issued one walk - a 2-out bases loaded walk in the top of the 7th to give Barrington/158 a 2-1 lead (Janesville/205 also had one Intentional Walk);

*Players need to know the game of baseball and the situation - with 1 out (runners 2nd & 3rd) in the bottom of the 5th (score 0-0) a flyball to center seems like a sacrifice fly - but the runner on 2nd was late returning to 2nd and was doubled off to end the inning;

*Keep your head in the game at all times - In the bottom of the 6th a 1-out/runner on 1st double scores the runner from 1st with a close play at the plate - but the batter is caught (in a run-down) trying to advance to 3rd on the same play;

*Jim's Narrative top of the 7th for Barrington/158 - score is Janesville 1, Barrington 0 - (1) Strikeout; (2) infield single; (3) popup to short - 2 out!; (4) single to right, runner on 1st goes to 3rd; (4a) runner on 1st steals 2nd; (5) with 2-0 count Intentional Walk to load the bases; (6) ground ball to 3rd, attempting to tag runner the ball rolls free - 1 run scores (1-1), bases remain loaded; (7) RBI Walk, score now Barrington/158-2, Janesville/205-1; (8) linedrive out to RF; Janesville went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th;
